Lipoedema is a body disorder concerning only women, with excessive adipose tissue around the extremities, especially the legs. Typical are the columnar lower legs and thick fat pads in the area of the ankles and knees. The feet are not affected. Patients suffer from congestive heart problems and bruise easily. Almost always, there is a familial predisposition to lipoedema. Despite the term lipoedema, there is no oedema in most cases. That is why lymph drainage, massages and wearing compression stockings are usually not very helpful. The only permanent improvement of the condition can be achieved with liposuction.
